US returns 17th-century manuscript

A manuscript stolen 350 years ago has returned to Hungary thanks to the New York district attorney’s office, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó announced in New York Wednesday evening.

He said this gesture is a landmark not only from a cultural but from a diplomatic angle in Hungarian-American relations.

The manuscript, Nervus Opticus Sive Tractatus Theoricus, is a treatise on the optic nerve written by Jesuit monk Zacharia Traber in 1675 and later stolen from Budapest.
