Heavy storm disrupts traffic at Budapest airport

A violent storm temporarily prevented all planes from landing or taking off at Budapest’s Liszt Ferenc International Airport on Monday, leading to numerous cancelled, delayed or diverted flights.
A reader citing air traffic control sources said the closure was prompted by high winds that hurled cargo containers onto the airport apron, tearing down sections of the perimeter fence.
One runway was closed for 90 minutes and the other for three hours from 2:30 p.m.
In addition, water leakage was detected in the veiling of the departures hall of Terminal 2A, therefore, all check-in procedures took place at Terminal 2B.
Flight schedules returned to normal by 5 p.m., with the exception of a few delayed flights.
