MNB lists villages in need of ATMs
The MNB has issued a list of settlements with more than 500 residents where banks must install at least one ATM, as at present there are none.
The obligation to install ATMs, imposed in a decree issued in late May, applies to communities with over 1,000 inhabitants this year, extending to those with populations between 500-1,000 next year.
In total, 1,039 ATMs must be installed nationwide.
Banks may exchange settlement responsibilities among themselves or assume ATM obligations on one another’s behalf.
The undertaking is expected to cost at least Ft 4 billion, excluding operating costs.
OTP must install 428 machines, MBH 195, K&H 117, Erste 104, Raiffeisen 65, UniCredit and CIB 52 each, and Gránit and MagNet Bank 13 each.
The distribution is subject to review every three years.
Notably absent from the list is Revolut, which is expanding its ATM network in Spain, Portfolio observes.
