MÁV offering refunds for late trains

For the first time in its history, state railway company MÁV will issue refunds to passengers as compensation for delayed trains, Construction and Transport Minister János confirmed yesterday.
MÁV will refund 50% of the ticket fare if trains arrive at their destinations 20 minutes or more behind schedule, starting on June 1.
Refunds will also be paid to Volán bus travellers for late arrivals.
Lázár said this is a significant step forward, as this is unprecedented in Europe.
He said it is a great success that the whole system works thanks to 50,000 MÁV employees based on a recently concluded wage agreement.
The minister will soon meet trade union officials to discuss a one-off wage supplement.
