MNB leadership cuts workforce by 15%

The MNB Hungary has said it will reduce its staff by 15%, approximately 266 jobs, as part of a cost-cutting and efficiency drive under its new leadership.

The central bank stated it is committed to transparent and streamlined operations, focusing on its legally defined core functions.

The planned redundancies follow a leadership shakeup since Mihály Varga, the former finance minister, took over as MNB governor in March.

The MNB said it would support affected employees with targeted job placement programmes.

The restructuring reflects a broader shift under Varga’s leadership, with recent replacements at the MNB’s real estate subsidiary and a strategic alignment with government priorities.
