Uber introduces 12-hour driving limit in Budapest
Uber has announced a Driving Time Limit feature in Budapest to enhance road safety by reducing fatigue-related accidents, starting April 21.
Under the new rule, drivers will not be allowed to operate for more than 12 consecutive hours without rest.
Once the limit is reached, Uber’s app will automatically go offline for six hours, after completing any ongoing trip.
The 12-hour driving clock resets only after this rest period.
Drivers will receive alerts as they near the limit and can take breaks voluntarily at any time.
While long driving hours increase accident risk, most Budapest taxi firms do not regulate driving time.
Uber says the new system, already used in parts of Africa, the Middle East, the US, and Europe, shows the company’s commitment to safety for drivers, passengers, and other road users.
The Driving Time Limit is part of a broader safety suite built on global ride data and analytics, aimed at improving the overall travel experience.
