Nobel physicist Krausz quits Russian academy

For reasons of conscience, Hungarian Nobel Physics Prize winner Ferenc Krausz is giving up his membership in the Russian Academy of Sciences, he announced in a social media post on Wednesday.

Stating that the international exchange of views is a great asset for him, he said he had considered the matter thoroughly, but seeing that the academy did not speak out against the war crimes committed by Russia against Ukraine he could not reconcile his membership with his conscience.

When he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in October 2023, Krausz offered the accompanying cash prize to the Science4People association, which rallies representatives of scientific life to help people afflicted by the Russia-Ukraine war.
