2 injured as grenade explodes at training session
A live grenade exploded during a volunteer training session for government officials in Újdörög, seriously injuring a public servant and a training soldier.
Maj. Gen. Zoltán Somogyi, stated that the woman sustained severe shrapnel wounds to her wrist, forearm, and face.
She was airlifted to North-Pest Central Hospital in critical condition and underwent life-saving surgery, losing both arms.
A training soldier suffered broken bones and soft tissue injuries.
He was transported in stable condition to a hospital in Veszprém after receiving emergency care.
The Hungarian Defence Forces had organised the voluntary training, with all participants assuming personal risk.
Following the accident, the programme was immediately suspended.
Somogyi urged the public and political leaders to refrain from speculation out of respect for the injured and their families.
