Gránit Bank starts operation in Romania

Gránit Bank has started operations in Romania with digital services, local media reported.

The lender whose major shareholder is István Tiborcz, the son-in-law of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, was originally scheduled to start operations in the third quarter of 2024.

Granit’s entry means that there is again a Hungarian bank on the Romanian market after OTP’s withdrawal, Telex observes.

Gránit Bank was founded in 2010 with the aim of supporting SMEs after the economic crisis.

Tiborcz’s real estate investment company BDPST acquired majority ownership of Granit in 2021, and he currently holds a 44.8% stake through his company TiberisDigital.
