Ministry and doctors clash over healthcare funding
The Interior Ministry and the Medical Chamber (MOK) are at odds over healthcare funding, as the ministry claims that all Hungarian patients receive top-quality care, and that unprecedented funding is allocated to the sector.
In contrast, the MOK claims that patient care and surgeries are being delayed due to underfunding.
In a recent statement, the ministry criticised these claims and accused the Tisza and Democratic Coalition parties and the media of misleading society and discrediting doctors and health professionals.
Undeterred, the MOK launched a social campaign highlighting that 97.2% of doctors surveyed believe the government’s €1,500 per patient funding is insufficient, pointing out that the EU average is €3,500.
The MOK attributes this underfunding to wage stagnation and hospital debt and reiterated its goal to improve the healthcare system and initiate necessary reforms.
The chamber also rejected accusations of political bias, stating that its stance is based on facts and statistics, independent of party politics.
