Gov’t ready to intervene in fuel prices

The government is ready to intervene with all means at its disposal if fuel prices in Hungary exceed the regional price level, the Economy Ministry announced on Saturday.

The ministry said several developments have occurred in recent weeks that have driven up the market price of crude oil and finished products.

The statement did not mention the price-raising effect of the increase in domestic excise tax from January 1, Portfolio observes.

Average prices in the region are Ft 637 per litre of petrol and Ft 654 per litre for diesel, while domestic prices are Ft 636 and Ft 654, respectively, the ministry adds.
