Ireland’s Keane to coach Fradi
Former Ireland international footballer Robbie Keane is the new head coach of defending Hungarian champions Ferencváros (FTC), the capital club announced on Monday.
The club, widely known as Fradi, had to look for a new coach after Pascal Jansen was hired away by New York City.
The 146-time international Keane, a striker, spent the defining period of his nearly 20-year career at Tottenham Hotspur, but also played for Coventry, Liverpool, Inter Milan and Leeds United.
Keane began his coaching career as an assistant with the Republic of Ireland.
In his only managerial role to date, Keane won the Israeli league title with Maccabi Tel Aviv last year. Despite the success, he left the position last summer.
The 44-year-old Irish coach signed his contract in Budapest yesterday.
