World swimming event starts today
The World Short Course Swimming Championships start today in Budapest and will continue until Sunday at the Duna Aréna.
Hungarian Swimming Federation president Sándor Wladár told a Monday press conference that organisers want to host the best world championships of all time, “as was achieved at the 2017 and 2022 world championships”.
Husain al-Musallam, Kuwaiti president of World Aquatics, stressed the role of Hungarians in the global history of world water sports, which goes back to the first Olympics with the success of swimmer Alfréd Hajós.
He added that developing countries can learn a lot from Hungary and a new generation of the sport could even be born in Budapest.
