Hungary officially asked the US to provide an exemption from the sanction on Gazprombank on Wednesday. However, US ambassador to Hungary David Pressman wrote on X on Thursday that “US sanctions on Gazprombank reaffirm our commitment to curtailing Russia’s ability to use the international financial system to conduct its war against Ukraine. We will continue to take all appropriate actions to promote accountability for those who enable or profit from Russia’s illegal war”.
