New airline plans flights to China

A new Hungarian airline is being established with a Chinese background, under the name Hungary Airlines, sector website Budflyer reports.

The company has already signed a co-operation agreement with Boeing.

Publicly available data shows that the company’s main activity is air cargo transport, with no mention of passenger transport in its range of services. It seems that the newly signed expansion contract pertains to passenger services, Portfolio writes.

President Duan Bo of Hungary Airlines and vice-president Gao Sixiang of Boeing Commercial Airplanes Global Sales signed an aircraft purchase agreement at the Chain Expo Hungary booth in Beijing on November 27, the Chinese-Hungarian news site Új Szemle reported.

The airline reportedly plans to buy 100 B737 MAX aircraft, to establish its passenger fleet.

This will allow it to operate flights in Eastern Europe, as well as to China, Budflyer writes.

The airline would use Budapest as a hub and plans to launch flights to Hong Kong before the end of this year.

It is not clear whether this would be a passenger or cargo flight, Budflyer notes.

Currently, direct flights to Budapest operate from mainland Chinese cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing and Ningbo.
