Hungary ranked tenth in EU in internet usage

Hungary ranked tenth in the EU for daily internet usage, with 88% of the population aged 16-74 using the internet regularly, according to a study by the national media and infocommunications authority NMHH.

The country placed 12th in fibre optic internet infrastructure availability out of 25 EU member states.

The proportion of the population using the internet and time spent surfing does not necessarily depend on the available infrastructure, the NMHH said, citing France as an example, where a relatively low 84% of the population aged 16-74 used the internet daily last year, despite having the third-best fibre optic network in the EU.

Internet usage in Hungary among the 55-74 age group was 71%, compared to 90% in Scandinavian countries.
