Samsung expanding quietly in Göd

Neither Samsung nor the municipality of Göd have drawn attention to the South Korean company’s plans to expand the EV battery factory in the immediate vicinity of the town by 43,000m2, website Mérce reports.

No online public hearing was announced, and notification that local residents could send their opinions on the subject by May 1 was published on a hidden page on the town’s official website.

Authorities have already started amending the environmental use permit issued in December for a period of ten years, which, as usual, they classified as "of special importance from the point of view of the national economy", 444 writes.

According to the announcement, four new production lines will be installed in addition to the existing 12, which would increase production capacity by 20%.

Instead of the previous 14,500 tons of the solvent NMP – which has been found in the water of the Göd wells, in wastewater from the factory, and in the air – 22,000 tons of solvent would be used every six months.
