Influx of Filipino workers rising rapidly

The number of Filipino guest workers in Hungary grew from 1,100 in 2022 to 6,300 in 2023, an unprecedented increase of more than 5,200, Portfolio reports.

Data from the Central Statistics Office also shows that 2,200 Vietnamese and 1,300 Kyrgyz workers arrived in Hungary in one year.

Simplified regulations cleared the way for the influx of non-EU guest workers last year, Portfolio adds.

In contrast, fewer East European workers opt for Hungary, as the wage advantage is vanishing and they instead seek work in Western Europe.

More than 20,000 Ukrainians work in Hungary but their number declined by more than 3,600 in one year.

In addition, more than 7,000 workers with Slovak and Romanian citizenship are working in Hungary, a number that is falling slightly.

After the Ukrainian, Slovak and Romanian workers, the Far Eastern countries are next on the list, as Hungary hosts 5,900 guest workers from China, 5,400 from Vietnam and 3,100 from India.
