Yettel network modernisation nears completion

Hungary’s number two mobile carrier Yettel is set to complete the modernisation of its network comprising more than 4,000 base stations this year, having achieved a 90% completion rate, the company announced.

The company launched a modernisation programme in 2020, phasing out 3G technology. At present, Yettel’s 4G network covers 99.5% of the population and the service provider is expanding the adoption of the latest 5G technology.

Yettel has experienced annual data traffic growth of 30% since the 2010s, rising to 80% in 2023 with the advent of 5G.

An average home internet user generates 300 gigabytes of traffic, which can go up to 730 gigabytes with TV service included.

The company has capped the number of subscriptions it can sell within a given 5G cell to guarantee download and upload speeds for clients.
