Food delivery workers plan to form a union

Food couriers working for such platform companies as Wolt and Foodora, are working to set up a trade union, 444 learned on Friday.

Since the small business flat tax KATA was fundamentally changed 18 months ago, such subcontracted workers are not only worse off financially, they say, but are employed under increasingly bad conditions.

They add that working as a subcontractor has disadvantages, as contractors no longer pay for time spent waiting to pick up an order, while the food couriers bear all costs of vehicle maintenance, there is no sick pay, those who drop out are left without income and they can be fired at any time.

Furthermore, they say, some platform companies employ cheap foreign labour, mainly Vietnamese and Filipino workers.

The couriers want to be able to account 80% of their revenue as expenses, up from the present 40%, and to gain formal employee status if they work more than a certain number of hours in a month.

Organisers of the proposed union plan to impose a monthly Ft 2,300 union contribution on future members.
