Richest 1% have the same wealth as the poorest 90%

The richest 1% of Hungary’s population has about one-third of the wealth in the country, the same as the poorest 90%, according to data from Blochamps Capital.

Those in the top 2-10% also have about one-third of the wealth.

More precisely, the 1% have 33.46% of the wealth, the top 2-10% have 33.8%, and the remaining 90% have 32.74%.

The MNB recently reported that the total assets held by Hungarian households amount to Ft 96.4 trillion.

The proportion of wealth held by the richest 1% is similar in all of Central Europe.

Hungary’s data regarding the top 10% is closer to the Russian situation than to the Central European picture.

The 1% have concentrated a greater percentage of the national wealth in their hands since 2010. At that time, the richest 1% had 24% of the total wealth, the top 2-10% had 35% and the remaining 90% had 41%.
