Czech police will no longer patrol border

The Czech government has decided that Czech police will not continue to patrol the Hungarian-Serb border, as illegal migration has almost come to a halt on the road leading to Hungary via Serbia from the southern part of the Balkans, Czech national police spokesman David Schön announced in Prague on Monday.

The last, 40-strong, Czech police contingent on duty at the Hungarian border returned to the Czech Republic at the end of the first week in March.

The operations of the Serb security forces and the measures adopted on the Hungarian side of the border equally helped improve the situation, said Schön.

Czech police will resume the patrols if necessary, he added.

Last year about 240 Czech police officers took tours of duty along Hungary’s southern border.
