Food rescue firm to work with Auchan

Retailer Auchan has teamed up with Hungarian food-saving startup Munch to offer products close to their expiry date at great discounts.

Auchan will offer three types of packages, including products requiring refrigeration, baked goods and fruits and vegetables, at discounts of up to 66%.

The value of the packages will be uniform in every store, but the products included in them may vary, Auchan said.

Munch was founded by four university students in 2020 to reduce food waste.

The company has 2,000 partners in Hungary – restaurants, bakeries, supermarkets, hotels and other stores, including large retailers such as Spar, Penny Market and Coop.

Munch also has agreements with bakery chain Lipóti, and coffee shop chains Cafe Frei and Starbucks.

Czech-founded app Nesnezeno was merged into Munch in November 2022.

The Hungarian company started operating in Slovakia last spring, and entered the Romanian market this year.
