Szijjártó hired luxury jet for official trips

Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó flew on a highly expensive Dutch luxury jet instead of the armed forces airplane on several official meetings last year, Átlátszó reports.

The website found out by requesting data of public interest that Szijjártó spent a total of Ft 264 million in public funds to travel on the private jet.

The foreign minister attended the sessions of the UN Economic and Social Council, the Security Council and the General Assembly in New York and met representatives of Unicef there on July 17 and 18, 2023.

The cost of the Budapest-New York-Budapest flight amounted to Ft 95.6 million.

The day after he returned from New York, the aircraft took Szijjártó to Brussels on July 20, at a cost of Ft 31.9 million.

Two months later, Szijjártó flew to the UN General Assembly session in New York on the same aircraft at a cost of Ft 136.8 million.

A highlight of the autumn visit to America is that Szijjártó hired another plane for Ft 40.9 million to visit Austin and Houston while the jet stayed in New York.
