City closes playgrounds

The Budapest crisis group has decided to close all playgrounds because toys are believed to spread the coronavirus, mayor Gergely Karácsony announced.

He said he and district leaders had discarded the option of free parking in the city, because they fear that permitting free parking would lead to chaos.

Karácsony declared that the government is not providing enough information, as he could not obtain a reassuring answer as to whether health and social workers are provided with protective equipment.

In consultation with district councils, it was agreed that there will be soup kitchens in each district, where disadvantaged children can get meals. Concerned parents may appeal to school principals, who will assess the need.
