Travel exhibition opens despite virus fears

The Travel 2020 exhibition opened in the Hungexpo exhibition complex in the Tenth District in Budapest on Thursday.

Visitors are welcomed by 250 exhibitors from 40 countries presenting their services on a 20,000m2 area.

Due to the spread of the coronavirus, the authorities were consulted on whether to open the show or not, said CEO Gábor Ganzer of organiser Hungexpo, adding that the guest country this year is Italy and on the domestic market the featured region is Eger.

Travel is the best investment, Budapest mayor Gergely Karácsony declared at the opening ceremony.

It is a pity that the coronavirus casts a shadow on the positive image of Italy, ambassador Massimo Rustico said.

Organisers forecast 40,000 visitors before the exhibition closes on March 1.
