Quarantine panic rumoured in shops

Not only have inhabitants of quarantined Western European cities begun emptying the supermarkets, but a Budapest shopper has also found empty shelves.

Pictures sent to website nlc.hu indicate that shoppers bought up entire shelves of non-perishable products at a Tesco outlet in Buda.

Shoppers mainly look for flour, rice, dry pasta, biscuits, chips and canned food, as these are the most durable products to secure a supply of food in the event of a quarantine.

Another reader reported that one of the supermarkets in Budaörs was running very low on canned food.
