Park activists sentenced to perform public works

The Pest Central District Court has given sentences of 100 hours of public works to each of eight activists who resisted construction work at the City Park, after convicting them of hooliganism committed in a group.

They include activist Márton Gulyás and former LMP politician László Várnai.

The trial stems from July 2016, when the activists protesting against the felling of trees damaged wooden boards and knocked down a gate at a construction site in the park.

The court ruled that their conduct was excessively anti-community.

No proceedings were launched against the security guards who used gas spray against the demonstrators, ATV adds.
