Unions strike wage deal with Auchan

Unions and the management of hypermarket chain Auchan concluded a wage agreement for this year. The move will cost Ft 1.6 billion in extra expenditures for the retailer, which will raise the entry wage of non-executive staff by 17%, according to a statement.

The gross monthly wage of shelf-stockers will rise to Ft 280,000. In addition to raising the base salary, the company continues to provide a comprehensive fringe benefit system, including employee discounts, high-risk health and accident insurance, regular screenings, and a unique shareholder programme, the statement said.

Zoltán Karsai, head of the Retail Workers Union (KASZ), said he was happy with the deal and spoke highly of the management’s attitude during the talks.

Auchan Retail Magyarország has made significant wage increases in recent years: the gross wage of home delivery truck drivers could go as high as Ft 466,000 this year.
