Dobrev eager for EU minimum wage

A European minimum wage is “worth fighting for,” Democratic Coalition MEP Klára Dobrev declared on Tuesday as EU Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights Nicolas Schmit, published a related proposal.

“Real consultation is just beginning in the European Commission about introducing a European minimum wage. The challenge is big, the goal can be implemented,” Dobrev wrote on her Facebook page, adding “if anything worth fighting for, this is”.

She added that the Democratic Coalition is initiating a dialogue with unions, employers, and research institutes in order to discuss how to introduce a European minimum wage.

“Orbán does not want to discuss this with us,” she added. “He appears not to want us Hungarians to live like our West European counterparts.”
