Spar reaches wage deal with union

Spar Magyarország has agreed with the retail workers union KASZ on 2020 wages, spokesman Márk Maczelka of the Dutch-owned retail chain announced on Thursday without providing an average wage hike figure.

Spar maintains its loyalty program and will pay the so-called 13th-month bonus also to career starters.

The lowest salary paid at Spar is a gross Ft 235,000 per month for workers on probation and Ft 245,000 afterwards.

Spar expanded the discount it offers to employees on purchases to 10%, as demanded by the union. The monthly ceiling on these purchases is Ft 80,000 per employee.

Spar is spending nearly Ft 7 billion on pay raises in 2020, having devoted Ft 26.5 billion to this end during 2017-19, Maczelka highlighted.

In addition, he said, the retailer will spend Ft 31.6 billion on development projects this year.
