Court orders release of Elios contract

A court has ruled that the town of Gyál had no right to conceal parts of a contract concluded with Elios Innovatív Energetikai, the public lighting company formerly owned by the prime minister’s son-in-law.

This means that no other data related to lighting upgrades, the value of commissions, prices and utilisation of state property may be declared a business secret and therefore kept confidential, Index writes.

The verdict sets an important precedent, Index adds, since it stresses that “the price charged for the utilisation of state property, or the acquisition of any related right, is a matter of public interest”.

The court issued the ruling after Transparency International won a lawsuit applying for the release of data in the matter.
