New freight centre opens at airport

Budapest Airport’s new freight centre, BUD Cargo City, has begun operations with the arrival of a Boeing 747, the airport operator announced.

The Ft 16 billion facility expands the freight-handling capacity of Liszt Ferenc International Airport from an annual 150,000 tons to 250,000 tons.

The cargo centre has 21,200m2 of storage area, an office building and an 11,650m2 goods moving area with 32,000m2 of adjacent open space.

The facility is able to service two 440-ton cargo capacity Boeing 747-8F aircraft at the same time.

The new cargo centre enables the airport to become an important cargo hub both in Hungary and Central Europe, Budapest Airport declared.
