Record year at Budapest Airport

Total passenger traffic for the year at Budapest’s Liszt Ferenc International Airport reached 16 million on Friday, an all-time high, operator BA announced on Friday.

The airport also experienced record traffic in 2018, at 14.9 million.

BA attributes the strong growth, which is above average compared to other airports in the EU, to the popularity of Budapest, the launch of new flights and airlines expanding their network from the Hungarian capital.

This year the number of cities accessible from Budapest grew by 16% to 200 with the launch of 33 new flights.

Traffic was boosted by long-haul flights, as direct links were established to Beijing, Chicago, Doha, Dubai, New York, Philadelphia, Seoul, Shanghai and Toronto, BA said, accounting for 1 million passengers.

Infrastructure developments will continue in 2020 and airlines have announced 16 new flights for 2020.
