OLAF investigates foundation

The EU anti-fraud office OLAF has launched an investigation into a Ft 450 million subsidy won by the Third Millennium Innovation Foundation, 444 reports, citing an official letter.

Independent MP Ákos Hadházy drew attention to this issue last February, saying that sports days paid for by the EU were not held in several villages of the country, or were minimally staged. Hadházy filed a related complaint with OLAF.

The Ft 450 million was to be used to organise 448 sports days in poorer regions.

Photographs and videos posted on the foundation’s Facebook page show a minimum of activity or organisation, such as children riding bicycles among jerrycans or bricks, three men playing football with a rubber ball in an unkempt lot, and young people and adults lounging in a field.

The foundation’s Facebook page is no longer accessible.
