Promotion campaign lifts rail ticket sales

MÁV-Start has more than 210,000 registered users of its mobile app, which now accounts for 28% of online ticket sales, the state-owned railway company announced.

Weekly downloads reached 9,500 between the end of July and the end of August, compared to 4,100 in the previous period.

The increase was due to the summer promotion of the service. Travellers now buy one in every three MAV tickets online or from self-service machines at train stations.

MÁV-Start is working to expand the scope of the service to the purchase of tickets and monthly passes valid for suburban railway lines, said CEO József Kerékgyártó.
