Protest against waste depot stench

Balatonfűzfő residents blocked the main traffic hub in nearby Veszprém on Monday in protest against the foul-smelling dump run by state waste manager Észak-Balatoni Hulladékgaz¬dálkodási in their town.

Authorities extended the licence of the depot by ten years, starting on September 25, one day before Veszprém mayor Gyula Porga invited residents for a public talk about the unpopular facility.

The new licence expands the dump’s annual capacity from 2,000 tons to 5,000 tons of sewage sludge.
