Two foreign nationals detained with FBI help

The National Bureau of Investigations in co-operation with the FBI detained two men in Budapest wanted on an international warrant, the police stated on its website on Saturday.

American authorities earlier issued a warrant for the arrest of a 44-year-old American man wanted for fraud. A group run by the man allegedly cheated American investors out of some $3.5 million dollars by promising them high yields on their investments, which he then stole. The man was caught in the Eighth District.

The United States also issued a warrant for the arrest of a 28-year-old French-Israeli citizen, a member of an international gang which cheated tens of thousands of Americans, mostly pensioners, by promising them high yields on their investments, causing $145 million in damages to the American victims.

If the man is convicted, he could be sentenced to 20 years in prison. He was apprehended in the Sixth District.
