17 killed in weekend road accidents

A total of 17 people were killed in 13 fatal road accidents across Hungary over the weekend, a police summary reveals.

Another 167 people suffered injuries, of whom 41 sustained severe injuries.

One person was killed on Friday when a bus crashed head-on into a car on the outskirts of Miskolc.

Also on Friday, a car travelled for several kilometres against oncoming traffic before colliding with another car, killing a 27-year-old woman, her 10-year-old son and an elderly woman.

Three people also died when two cars collided on main road No. 2 on Saturday evening. A deadly accident also occurred on route 54 at Soltvadkert.

On Sunday the body of a man was found underneath a car that had overturned in Csepel. Early Sunday afternoon a Renault swerved off the road at Tiszadada, killing a man.

It appeared that the number of fatal accidents on Hungarian roads would fall this year, as the number killed in accidents dropped from 343 at the end of last July to 284 this year.
