Gov’t distributes airport noise meters

The transport science institute KTI yesterday began distributing 30 hand-held noise meters to residents living close to Liszt Ferenc International Airport in Budapest, the Innovation and Technology Ministry announced.

Residents may use the devices for a limited time before returning them.

Authorities are prepared to issue fines from September for excessively noisy night flights.

Any revenues collected will be used to improve sound insulation of the affected homes in the area, the ministry underlined.

The KTI suggests that some of the existing six recording stations be moved and that seven more be installed.
