Kayak champions disqualified

Kayak champions Anna Kárász and Danuta Kozák were disqualified at Thursday’s 500-metre kayak event at the Olympic qualification world championship in Szeged.

The duo’s boat was found to be lighter than permitted when it was measured. The Hungarian team may therefore not compete in the Tokyo Olympics in this event.

The boat was measured at 80 dekagrams lighter than allowed by regulations. The Hungarian crew also weighed the boat and found the same results.

The duo won their heat at the qualifying event. Kárász only competed in the 500-metre sprint event at the world championships, while five-time Olympic champion Kozák will also compete in the 500-metre singles event, in which she is also a champion.
