Lázár files e-cigarettes bill

Only existing tobacco retailers will be permitted to sell e-cigarettes under a bill filed on Friday by government commissioner for the protection of non-smokers János Lázár.

Excise tax will be also levied on nicotine-free e-cigarette filling liquids, but the general tax rate will be cut from Ft 55 to Ft 20 per millilitre.

The number of tobacco shops per capita will be lowered from one per 3,000 inhabitants to one per 4,000 inhabitants.

As concessions were granted for 20 years, shops already operating will not be closed.

In effect, this change is a ban on opening new shops for years, Index observes.

The bill also increases fines for illegal tobacco trade.
