Wizz Air buys long-range jets

Wizz Air has ordered 20 Airbus A321XLR long-range jets, indicating plans to expand its market, airline industry website Airportal reported from the Paris Air Show, where the contract was signed on Wednesday.

The aircraft, capable of flying distances of up to 8,700km, will arrive over three years starting in 2023.

CEO József Várady confirmed at the signing ceremony that Wizz Air would like to expand its operations to include long-range flights.

Wizz Air’s existing flights to Astana and Dubai are successful, so the long-range operation is promising, he added.

The new planes will open up North American and Asian destinations from Wizz Air’s main market, the Eastern European region, Airportal points out.

Wizz Air shareholders still have to approve the deal.
