Tarlós criticises Karácsony over parking

“I propose that parking become free for every Budapest resident in the district where they live, and that only those from outside the district should pay,” Budapest mayor István Tarlós said in an interview with Magyar Nemzet on Monday.

According to the daily, an unpopular parking system in Budapest’s 14th District costs residents Ft 1 million daily. Tarlós criticised Zugló mayor Gergely Karácsony for contradicting himself “nearly every day” on the district’s parking system.

Karácsony voted for cancelling the district’s parking agreement and then challenged his own affirmative vote, Tarlós said.

Meanwhile, district notary Imre Papp has said that the parking contracts causing the financial losses cannot be cancelled, a document obtained by Magyar Hírlap shows. Papp said the May 13 decision to annul the contracts by the District council is in contravention of existing legal regulations.
