Mobile internet usage jumps

The number of mobile Internet users grew by 37% between 2015 and the end of 2018, while mobile data traffic grew four-fold in the period, according to data from media authority NMHH.

The number of mobile phone subscriptions were unchanged at 11 million.

The market share of pre-paid cards dropped from 36% to 43% during the period.

At the end of 2018 there were six million mobile internet cards, up 40% from 2015.

More than 90% of mobile data traffic was carried by the 4G network at the end of 2018, up from 50% in 2015.

Based on mobile call and mobile data traffic, Magyar Telekom had a market share of 45%, followed by Telenor and Vodafone, each with about 27%.

There were some 1 million machine to machine (M2M) optimised smart cards at the end of 2018 following annual growth of 10-15% in the preceding years.
