MNB concludes art buying project

The MNB has ended its art buying programme, having spent Ft 13 billion since January 2014 on the purchase of artworks, it was announced on Friday.

The MNB unveiled the publication of an album showcasing works of art acquired by the central bank over the last five years.

These include Titian’s Virgin Mary with Child and Saint Paul for Ft 4.5 billion and Hungarian painter Mihály Munkácsy’s Christ before Pilate for an undisclosed amount.

Earlier this year, the government announced that it had purchased Munkácsy’s Golgotha for Ft 3 billion from private collector Imre Pákh.
