Nagy statue moving to Jászai Mari tér

Sculptor Tamás Varga has consented to the re-erection of his statue of 1956 prime minister Imre Nagy on Jászai Mari tér, ATV reports.

In the course of consultations in recent weeks, the sculptor gave his conditional assent to the new location at the Pest side of the Margaret Bridge and will take part in making decisions about the placement of the statue.

After the Fifth District council gives the go-ahead, preparatory works could soon start on Jászai Mari tér.

According to plans, the statue could be unveiled in its new location on June 16, the anniversary of Nagy’s execution.
