VW dismisses workers hired from Audi

Volkswagen’s Slovak unit has decided to return 500 workers temporarily hired from its Audi subsidiary in Győr, the German carmaker’s announced on Tuesday

Due to falling demand, Volkswagen had to dismiss employees and reduce from four to three the number of shifts at its factory in Bratislava, the country’s largest car plant, with some 14,000 employees.

The 500 hired workers dismissed by Volkswagen will join the Audi workforce, the Slovak unit told Reuters.

Workers at the Bratislava factory went on strike in April, 2017, for the first time in the 25-year long history of the plant, Napi recalled.

They demanded a 10% wage hike from monthly €1,800 when Audi employees were paid a monthly €1,060.
