December protesters fined

Police have issued fines to about half of the protesters whose names were recorded on the night of December 13, and are yet to question the other half, 444 reports.

After a demonstration on Kossuth tér that day, people started to head towards Blaha Lujza tér from Nyugati station on the Nagykörút, but police separated the crowd into groups and then surrounded them on smaller sidewalks.

After about an hour, people were allowed to leave only after they had been identified, and said their name on camera.

This was probably done by police officers to identify the protesters later, but, according to a Civil Liberties Union lawyer, this procedure was certainly not legal.

In addition, some were recorded who were not with the protesters.

Some 201 people were registered on the Nagykörút that night, and proceedings have been initiated against 148. In the 98 decisions taken so far, 94 fines have been issued.
