Hamed in custody after jail term

Ahmed Hamed, convicted of terrorism over an incident at the Röszke border station in 2015, was taken back into custody as soon as he was released from prison on Saturday.

He is to be deported from Hungary but he has no passport. He remains under arrest until it is clarified where he will go.

Government spokesman István Hollik said negotiations are under way with Cyprus. Hamed has residency status in that country.
